I'd been thinking about drawing some sort of bird anthro for a while, but hadn't gotten around to it. I decided that this was a good excuse, and gave me a subject to try drawing in full color on black paper. I wasn't quite sure if colors other than white would show up as clearly, but I think it turned out decent. I didn't use any direct references for any of this image, even the wing. I think it turned out all right anyway, but it's far from perfect. I'm not sure if I am done with this drawing. I'm considering adding more setting/background, but I'm not sure what or how. If you have any ideas, or think I should stop here, I am interested in hearing other people's opinions.

There won't be any prints of this one because my scanner woefully mangled the subtler shading in the drawing. There is actually a LOT more shading than you can see here, but the scanner so badly yellowed the image that I lost the softer tones entirely. There should be more shading in her face, hair, dress, and on the ground. The water pattern in the bottom of the kimono is inspired by the woodblock prints of Hiroshige.

Diptic, each panel is 12"x18" black paper ~20 hours of work No prints. I had a very difficult time getting it to scan this well, and I debated not posting it at all because of the quality. Each panel required 4 scans, and you can see a ghosting on the edges of the paper because it couldn't lay flat. This piece was inspired a couple months back, when I was at Half Moon Bay watching the moon over the ocean on a very cold fall night. I've been turning it over and over in my head, and this is what I finally came up with. I am absolutely ecstatic with how the original turned out. I wish all of you could see it. This digital image really doesn't do it justice. This piece will be for sale in the Further Confusion 2008 art auction.

6"x13" drawing on 12"x18" black paper 10 hours of work There will be no prints of this image. Original will be for sale in the Further Confusion 2008 art auction. I've never tried to draw wet fur before, but I thought a river otter should be wet. I looked at a lot of photos of wet otters to get the fur and the head right, but I couldn't find a single one that gave me exactly the angle I wanted, and nowhere near the kind of lighting I wanted. The only direct reference was from the male nude that inspired the piece.

Graphite pencil, 8"x10", smooth white paper Colorized in Photoshop. Character copyright to Greymane Shadowfur. This is a commissioned drawing for Ephraim of his mate, Greymane Shadowfur. This drawing was actually finished back in June, but I waited to post it until after its unveiling on Greymane's birthday. As per Ephraim's request, I colorized the drawing (using Photoshop). The uncolored version may be found here: [link] Personally, I'm not sure which I like better, so I am posting both. ;) The image depicts a scenario which Ephraim posted to Furry Sanctuary, describing a boobie trap of plushies waiting to fall on unsuspecting Greymane's head when he came in the door. Ephraim is a bear, so I prominently included a very large stuffed bear, as well as a plushie wolf in Greymane's color pattern. Happy Birthday, Greymane.

I was looking through a book of photos and came across a photo of a Komodo Dragon walking across a beach. I thought it was a lovely photo, and brought it to the attention of my best friend. Her immediate response was that it should have a mouse riding on its back, and I thought that was a lovely idea. I have never drawn a knight riding anything before, and I wanted to get it right, so I kept my eyes peeled for a good reference photo. demonmoth from deviantART kindly allowed me to use his "Good Knights" photo as a reference. This is also the first time I have drawn ocean, so while it did not turn out perfect, I am fairly happy with the final result. Drawn on 14"x17" smooth, white paper.
